Our History

75+ Years of Flooring Expertise

As a young man in the late 1940s, Harry Levy had done his share of laying down the newly invented floor of the future, linoleum. Weary of being on the ground all day, he decided to stand up and become a small business owner.

His timing couldn’t have been better. Picking a location on Pico Blvd. in Mid-city Los Angeles, Harry and Janet built a store for their new floor covering business and an attached apartment for their growing family.

At the same time, new construction was springing up all over West Los Angeles. New homes, apartment buildings, and businesses were in need of floor covering and the Levy’s were ready to supply them.

Today, it seems like everyone in Los Angeles has heard of A-1 Floor Covering. Founded in 1950, the business specializes in all types of floor covering, both residential and commercial, and relies on a rock-solid base of satisfied customers who have been coming back and recommending A-1 for 75 years.

A-1’s excellent reputation stems from the Levy’s commitment to customer service.  Like other successful people in the floor covering industry, they believe customer satisfaction ultimately depends on the quality of the installation.

Our Philosophy

“Our philosophy has always been to keep control of the process from sales to installation. We’re very personal, very individual-oriented, and we guarantee our work. We are the owners/operators, and this is our life’s blood. The customer has to be satisfied. If the customers are happy, they’ll keep coming back and recommending us to their family, friends, and neighbors.”
